Want your visitors to spread the word about your website? A share banner is a small row of clickable icons that lets a visitor post the page they are reading to their favorite site, such as X or Facebook, in one click. Try the icons below to share this page.

What is a share banner?

Most of our banners link out to a site, like your own social profile. A share banner works the other way. When a visitor clicks an icon, that site opens with the page they are on already filled in, including its title and link. They only have to press post. You choose the icons, the style, the size, and an optional title such as "Share this page."

How it works for your visitors

  • They click an icon. A small window opens at that site, such as x.com, with the page title and link ready to post.
  • They post it. If they are not logged in, the site asks them to log in first, then shows the post.
  • Their friends see a preview. The post shows your page's title and, on most sites, a picture, with a link back to your website.

How to add one to your website

  • Pick 1 to 6 icons in the builder and put them in the order you like.
  • Choose a title, size, and style. The small size fits a standard 180 pixel sidebar, and a vertical layout works well in narrow columns.
  • Press Copy Code. You can also download it as a small HTML file.
  • Paste it into your page. Use the HTML view of a blog post, a page, or a sidebar gadget. The banner works on every page where you place it and always shares the page the visitor is on.

Which sites can you share to?

  • Share to a post: Facebook, X, Pinterest, Reddit, Bluesky, Threads, Telegram, and WhatsApp each open with the page ready to post.
  • Email: opens the visitor's email program with the page title and link filled in.
  • Copy link: copies the page address, so a visitor can paste it anywhere, including sites that do not accept shared links.
  • More: on phones and tablets, opens the device's own share menu with the apps they already use.

Why isn't Instagram on the list?

Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and a few other sites do not offer a way for a website to send them a page to post. No banner can do it for them. Instead, the Copy link and More icons give those visitors an easy path: they copy the link and paste it into their own post.

Get a good preview picture

The preview that appears with a shared post comes from the page being shared, not from the banner. To make it look good:

  • Add a picture to the post or page. Blogger uses it for the social preview.
  • Write a short description in the page settings so there is something to show under the title.
  • Keep the title clear. The visitor's post starts with your page title.
  • Test it once. Share your own page and see what it looks like. Some sites remember an old preview for a while after you change a picture.

If something does not work

  • Nothing opens. Allow pop-up windows for your site in the browser, since the share window is a small pop-up.
  • The icons show but do nothing. Some website builders remove scripts from pasted code. Use their custom HTML block, or paste the code in the HTML view instead of the visual editor.
  • Pinterest asks for a picture or a login. Pinterest needs an image and a logged-in visitor. Make sure the page has a picture.
  • The preview shows the wrong picture or text. Check the page's picture and description, then try again after a little while.
